“It was the local Roswell Army Airfield that handled the investigation and collected the wreckage material. The original story mentions eyewitnesses. Two of these were a well known local business owner and his wife, who were sitting on the front porch of
their home when they saw this object streaking across the sky at about four hundred to five hundred miles per hour. It was saucer shaped and about twenty to twenty-five feet across. Soon after that, a rancher found debris spread over a remote area of his ranch and contacted the local sheriff who then notified the Roswell Army Air base.”
